How important should income and retirement savings be in choosing the right guy?
I (36) have a good career and so far not doing too bad. I am not rich but can take care of myself and my three daughters (and my elderly parents, partially). I recently met a wonderful man (42) and he is great, but works as an independent mechanic with very variable income and no savings whatsoever. I do not mean to be materialistic, but money issues do cause problems in relationships… is love enough? What will happen when he is physically unable to work but has no way to retire?
You need a man with a stable job and a stable income. While this guy may have a job, it cannot be guaranteed that he will have enough money to even pay the bills. My father-in-law has such a job, and it is hard to see him and my mother-in-law struggle because he doesn’t know when the next time he will get paid.
