I have a large sum of money in my checking that I’d like to deposit into my savings. How can I do this without physically withdrawing the cash and transferring it between banks? Can I write myself a check to deposit into the savings account?

Yes, as long as the money is in your checking account. Some banks will take the check made out to CASH, but usually you make it out to your own name (and only endorse it at the bank before depositing otherwise it anybody can take and cash it as a third party check.)
